Teens in robotic battle against the world

THREE students will build a robot in a contest against high school teams from 160 countries in Washington DC next month.

The Grace Lutheran College Rothwell students Sarah Lockyer from Bracken Ridge, Daniel McGowan from North Lakes and Zac Manoiloff from Woody Point will compete to build a robot to store, clean and cart water.

Sarah said she was surprised and excited to be selected to represent Australia at the FIRST Global Robotics Challenge.

“I am very excited to be attending this event and was also very surprised when we got the call telling us that we had been chosen as the representatives for Australia,” she said.

“It is a great honour and I hope that we do our country, our school and our friends and family proud.

“We have been creating a robot from a kit supplied to all 160 nations attending, so everyone is on an even playing field using the same parts. It is just how we use those parts to create the robot and get it to perform the tasks required that may differ with each team.
