FIRST Global to Host Nearly 160 Nations in U.S. Capital for World’s 1st High School-level Robot Olympics

What:FIRST Global (www.first.global) is hosting the world’s first international robot olympics for high school students this July 16 in Washington, D.C., with one team from each of the nearly 160 participating nations. Those attending this year’s Challenge include more than 50 diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C., other government representatives, members of various STEM-focused organizations such as the National Academy of Engineering, and members of the general public at large.The President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim is the guest speaker.

The FIRST Global Challenge is an annual robotics competition in which a different issue of global importance will be the focus of the games that will be held in a different nation across the world each year. This year’s theme is drawn from one of the 14 Grand Challenges of Engineering identified by the U.S. National Academy of Engineering – “access to clean water” – and will see two alliances of three teams each competing to remove contaminant particles from a simulated river during the competition.
