Team Barbados 2017

Team Barbados is led by Mr Matthew Douglas, an Electronics and Electrical Technology Teacher with 20 years professional experience at the secondary level. Passionate and dedicated to the teaching profession, Mr Douglas constantly encourages his students to soar beyond the boundaries. He has mentored countless young persons and is a major driving force behind the expansion and implementation of innovative teaching methods at the Combermere School.

The students comprising Team Barbados include Donavan Goodridge, Xavier Giles, Akeem Blades, Tabari Rudder-Fields, Videsh Maharaj and Russell Burnett from the Combermere School and Zachary Proverbs-Harris from Queen’s College. These students are passionate about their studies in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Physics and Robotics. The team has mainly worked with Arduino project boards and one student has previously worked with STEM projects.

Although having never participated in a robotics competition before, these students have been working well as a team for two years and demonstrate remarkable diligence, resilience and commitment. One of their major challenges was to complete the project in a very short time frame whilst undergoing external examinations, therefore effective time management skills were critical to their success.

The members of Team Barbados are eager to showcase their skills, interact with fellow competitors and develop new global linkages whilst representing their beautiful island.
