Team Jamaica 2017

Jamaica’s FIRST Global Championship team is still being formed. It will be comprised of students from 4 secondary schools located in Kingston, the country’s capital. The schools are Immaculate Conception High School, Kingston College, St George’s College and Jamaica College. (JC).

The main organizer and sponsor of Team Jamaica is the Union of Jamaican Alumni Associations (USA) Inc. UJAA is a tax exempt, charitable organization representing over 45 Jamaican schools and their alumni in the USA. UJAA partners with member Associations to execute the project.

The 2017 team will based at JC. This because the school has a dedicated robotics lab and has been competing in FIRST Tech Challenge since 2009. Technical support for the team should be adequate.

Immaculate Conception HS (an all-girls school) also has an established Robotics Club and FIRST Global will be their first taste of competition. ICHS is therefore also a Jamaican robotics pioneer. Kingston College and St George’s College are both in the process of launching their clubs and given their history it’s assured that they will be very successful.

The FIRST Global Championship is perfectly timed for Jamaican secondary schools. Through it students will get a good feel for international competition. The competition will also be a great lead-in to Jamaica’s inaugural National Robotics Championship Spring 2018.
