Team Malawi 2017

Team Malawi comprises highly motivated five boys and 3 girls, some of whom are in high school while others are in their first year of college. The team has interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Nyasha Mpinda is a grade 10 student in high school. His favorite subjects are sciences. He is interested in becoming an engineer and help in providing solutions to the various challenges that Malawi is facing.

Shreya Thrakar is a 17 year old student an IB International. She is an avid technology enthusiast. She is a member of the Malawi Technology Hub. She is a self-taught programmer and now is at an advanced level in programming with knowledge of Android studio at an advanced level.

Rebecca Mzungu is 18 years old student at the National College of Information in Lilongwe. She has multiple skills in technology from coding to networking. She is also a self-taught mobile app developer at intermediary level.

Eureka Matope would like to see science at work in real-life. He is interested in putting his basic science knowledge to solving problems that affect his community and the country at large.

Malumbo Mkandawire is 19 years old. He dreams of becoming a robotics engineer to help solve some of the challenges that Malawi is facing. He says that robotics is a calling to him.=

Janet Kapito, studying towards electrical and electronics engineering degree is an enthusiastic student. Through her summer internship in the Design Studio at the Malawi Polytechnic, she is currently working on the design of a passive water filtration method using clay pellets. She has experience in 3D printing, laser cutting, and programming in C and C++.

Yusuf Chimole is a first year student studying towards ICT. Through his summer break internship at the Polytechnic, he has been working on the design of a mobile robotic arm driven by Arduino and controlled using an Android application. He has excellent knowledge in both electromechanical systems programming and prototyping. He has also good knowledge in 3D printing and laser cutting.

Brenald Dzonzi has working knowledge in building mechatronic systems. With a team of fellow students, he has been working on building a quadrotor drone from first principles using 3D-printed and laser-cut parts. He has also good knowledge in web development using Python on Raspberry Pi minicomputers.
