Team Guam consists of members Avinash Dhanraj, Adrian Tambora, Danny Morta, Bazyll Garcia, and Carissa Lazaga. All are students under the Guam Department of Education and aspire to be role models in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) related fields. Though they may be young, they have a lot of motivation and energy in learning robotics. The team is guided by mentors Roderick Hidalgo and Marianne Movida, and team managers Dr. Leah Beth Naholowaa and Jessica De Vera. The team’s greatest struggle is raising enough funds to go to 2018 FIRST Global Challenge in Mexico City, but that is not stopping the team from losing hope and progressing in building their robot. Altogether, the team is doing their utmost best to working towards their goal for Mexico City.

Avinash Dhanraj (Avi) is like any other fourteen-year-old boy. He is the team captain of Team Guam. He likes to play video games, engage in virtual design, read science fiction, tell jokes, and write. He takes anything to do with his future very seriously.

Adrian Tambora is a fifteen year-old freshman in Simon Sanchez High School and the co-captain. Though he aspires to be a psychiatrist, he understands the multiple careers that robotics open up. Other than that, Adrian hopes that he remains positive in the future, despite the shortcomings that may strike him. He enjoys playing both video and tabletop games with his friends and working out to strengthen himself.

Danny Morta is a seventeen-year-old junior who attends Simon Sanchez High School in Guam and the driver of the team. He likes sports, playing video games, spending time with his family, and trying new things. He loves sharing the gospel of his personal Lord, Savior, King, and Hero, Jesus Christ. He loves math, loves video games, and wants to be an engineer, which are all aspects of robotics. Now, he is taking every opportunity to better his skills, knowledge, and understanding of the robotics and engineering field.

Bazyll Garcia is a freshman taking honors/advanced courses at Okkodo High in Guam and plans to take more rigorous classes in the years ahead. He is the technician and designer of the team. When he is not working with electricity, he participates in school sports such as volleyball, soccer, tennis, and track and field. He believes that his interests could lead to bigger opportunities and a brighter future.

Lastly, Carissa Lazaga is a fifteen year old freshman student at Okkodo High School on the island of Guam. She is the programmer and the only girl of the team. She has been interested in robotics since last year. When she joined the FIRST Lego League to represent her middle school, it sparked an interest. Carissa is also a musician. She plays a couple different instruments, such as the drums, keyboard, guitar, ukulele, bass, and also sings. She is part of the school rock band, so she usually spends her spare time practicing with her assigned band, and also her outside school band, 4th Story. Her favorite subjects have to be band and math. Her dream is be as inspirational as her parents.
