Team Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 2018

Jade Francois
I am a graduate of the St. Martin’s Secondary School. I am presently 17 years of age. I found myself interested in Technology and Robotics ever since I entered high school where I joined the Tech Club. I was immediately intrigued about anything new I could learn in the field of Technology. Going through my time at high school I continued to become more involved in ICT. I am presently a volunteer assistant technician and mentor at the STEMSVG Summer Programme. I decided to join the FIRST Global robotics team for my country, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, a small island state consisting of 32 islands and cays. My country is known as a tropical get away for many persons around the world, because it has welcoming weather and people. I believe that St. Vincent and the Grenadines entering this robotics competition would add great value to our nation and lives of the youth involved in this venture. I am looking forward to a wonderful learning experience through being a part of this competition. It is a great honour for me to represent my country on this level.

Marselena Melville
I am an 18-year-old graduate of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College where I studied Pure Mathematics, Spanish, Chemistry and Biology for two (2) years. In the future, I hope to be a cardiologist or a cardiothoracic surgeon. I am interested in robotics as it consists of varying theories or subject areas, which makes it quite interesting and fun yet very educational. In my spare time I enjoy reading, completing strategic mind games, team sports and listening to music of differing genres. In school, my favorite subject was (pure) mathematics due to its challenging nature. One of my unique qualities is that I am not saddened or discouraged by an off-putting or disappointing situation, instead, I think that everything happens for a reason and I’m quite optimistic that no problem is long-lasting.

Onate Cottle (builder and driver)
Hello, my name is Onate Cottle, I am 18 years old and I am the driver for the St. Vincent and the Grenadines FIRST Global team. My interest in robotics stems from my love of physics and computer science, and when I was selected to be a part of the team, I was excited at the prospect of operating a robot I helped build. Outside of those mentioned my interests include reading, playing video games, and taekwondo hope to do my country proud with this chance I’ve been given to represent it.

McNeil Trotman
I am 19 years of age and have just graduated from the St Martin’s Secondary School. I plan on attending the St Vincent Community College where I would be furthering my studies in Computer Science to become a programmer. My interest in robotics started ever since I was introduced to it at a young age by my Information Technology teacher in secondary school. I hope to gain experience working with my team while having fun.

Mr. Young is a well rounded and experienced individual, with 12 plus years of work experience a BASc in Manufacturing and Design Engineering. He has always been an enthusiastic tinker growing up and this has morphed into a passion for building Mechatronic systems. He is happy for this opportunity provided by FIRST Global to enable the exposure of Vincentians to Robotics on a global scale.

Mr. Petrus Gumbs
I was born and raised in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I received my Bachelor in Minnesota, United States in the small town of Duluth. It was cold, but I made it for four years there and I received my first insight in one of the national robotic completion as a team member. I am currently an information technology teacher, head of the information technology department and the director of the STEM program her in St.Vincent and the Grenadines at one of the leading all boys school. Through all the work of running the STEM program we came across quite a few talented kids and in doing so were able to pull together a team to take on the challenge of the FIRST global competition. See you in Mexico.
