Team Bahamas 2018

The four members of The Bahamas 242 Robotics are an all-girl team from Nassau, Bahamas. They are all former T. G. Glover PDR School students. They range from grades 8 – 10 and now attend various high schools throughout the capital city. They are all active participants in the FOCUS program (Forward and Onward to College, Upward to Success) an 8-year college readiness and access program. They all have a passion for STEM and for taking on new challenges. They have all participated in Bahamas FIRST Lego League Challenge. The team believes that technology, science and innovative thinking are all essential in the pathway to a successful future.

My name is Carrinique Dean, an 8th grader at Christian Heritage School in Nassau Bahamas. I am the oldest of five children. I am an active student involved in such clubs as dance, girls, volleyball, interact and school’s choir. I am also in the FOCUS (Forward and Onward to College, Upward to Success) program, an 8 year college readiness and access enrichment program. I have participated in the Bahamas FIRST Lego League for the last three years and have a special love for STEM. My aspiration is to be a mathematics teacher.

I am Jasmine Roker, a 10th grader at C R Walker Senior High School in Nassau, Bahamas. I love basketball and soccer and am involved in a Girl’s Group, Daughters of Sarah. I attend Chapel on the Hill Church and am a part of the dance ministry. I have participated in the Bahamas FIRST Lego League for three years and have served one year as a Jr. Coach. I am a part of the FOCUS (Forward and Onward to College, Upward to Success) program for the past four years and will now enter OCTC (On Course to College) for the next 3 years. I love Science and all things STEM related. I want to be an Orthopedic Doctor when I grow up. I strive to always be a useful and productive citizen of my country and I’m always up for a new challenge.

I am Welneisha Armbrister, a 10th grader at C. R. Walker Senior High School in Nassau, Bahamas. I love purple, lime green and royal blue. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters and live with both my parents. I have been in Bahamas FIRST Lego League for three years and have served one year as a Jr. Coach. I am a part of the FOCUS (Forward and Onward to College, Upward to Success) program for the past four years and will now enter OCTC (On Course To College) for the next 3 years. I aspire to be a Royal Bahamas Defense Force Officer in the future.

My name is Xamara Nichols, a 9th grader at St. John’s College located in Nassau, Bahamas. I love track and field activities, swimming and volleyball. I am a participant in FOCUS (Forward and Onward to College, Upward to Success) program, a Lyford Cay International Scholarship Foundation. I am an active member at my church, Holy Spirit Anglican Church where I am a member of the 16th Nassau Company Girls Brigade and Christian Youth Movement. I have been on the Bahamas FIRST Lego League Team for two years as a member and served 1 year as a Junior Coach. I am ready to face the challenge of FIRST Global 2018!

I am Ajani Moss, an 8th grader at Queen’s College in Nassau, Bahamas. I love playing soccer and served as team captain for the past two seasons in our competitive league. Other hobbies include playing basketball, reading, bowling, community outreach activities, travelling, beach soccer and Play Station . I attend Bahamas Faith Ministries (BFM) and I am a change agent and leader in our Junior Church. I have been a BETA Camp participant (STEM focus) in the Chemical Engineering stream since 5th grade and we placed 3rd in tis year’s Smart City challenge. Math and science are my favorite subjects and I aspire to be a chemical engineer and help to make our world a better place to live and enjoy. I am proud to be a Bahamian in paradies. As we say in the 242 the place of sun, sand and sea, “It’s better in the Bahamas the place where God lives!”

I am Matthew Thompson, an 8th grader at Queen’s College in Nassau, Bahamas. I love swimming, playing basketball, reading, playing and competing in chess competitions, and exploring technology. I’ve also been titled ‘Best 11-12 Chess Player in the Bahamas’ by the Bahamas Chess Federation. I also love to give back to the less fortunate, through community outreach activities. I began a give back Christmas outreach event after the devastation of Hurricane Matthew in 2016. As a result of its success, it has become an annual event. I attend Holy Cross Anglican Church, where I am an alter server. I’m also actively involved in the Sunday school and 13th Bahamas scout group at my church. This is my first year participating in the FIRST Lego League Bahamas. My favorite subjects are science, mathematics, and technology and I aspire to be a scientist to help others live healthy and longer lives. I believe that God has no hand but out hands and that we should always strive to do our part to make the world a better place.

I am TaNy’ah Gibson, a 10th grader at Queen’s College in Nassau, Bahamas. My hobbies include; Reading, Swimming, Art and Singing and I’m currently a member of The Bahamas National Children’s Choir. I am also a member of St. Michael’s Methodist Church and a part of the Sunday School ministry. This is my first year participating in the FIRST Lego League Bahamas. I’ve been a part of the FOCUS (Forward and Onward to College, Upward to Success) program for the past four years and will now enter OCTC (On Course to College) for the next 3 years. I love animals and science and want to be a Veterinarian with my own clinic when I grow up. I believe strongly in conservation and that we should strive to protect our Bahamas.
