Team Chile 2018

With the support of Girls in Tech Chile, Team Chile is composed of 10 members from every Chilean FIRST Robotics Competition team that showed high levels of commitment and passion. All of our members come from three different parts of Chile: Santiago, Valparaíso and Concepción. Despite coming from different cities and teams, we all have one thing in common: our passion for robotics and STEM. This is why we all get together every Saturday in Santiago in FABLAB UC – our official workspace – to work on our robot.

60% of our team is made up of girls, and almost every sub-team is being lead by them. It’s a very diverse team and we trust that we will use it as our strength to look for innovative ways to approach this challenge and get the most out of each and every one of us.

We are proud to represent our country in this year’s season and being part of the national team will give us the opportunity to reach out and impact the lives of more students, especially girls, through our experience and encourage them to aspire for more.

Energy Situation

Chile’s electricity mainly comes from three different sources: 65% generated by geothermal power, 30% by hydraulic power and the remaining 5% from other sources, such as solar panels. Studies have revealed that our country is the one with the highest energy dependence in Latin America. Currently, there is a program under development that aims to reduce this dependence and the costs that come with it. They plan to do so by amplifying the use of environment-friendly energies, especially wind power, which has been proven to be effective in zones such as Magallanes. Solar power is also gaining popularity, particularly in the Atacama desert where they have already installed numerous solar panels, becoming one of the most important ways of obtaining energy in the zone.
