Washington, D.C. – It has been reported that the all-female robotics teams from Afghanistan will compete alongside nearly 160 other nations in this year’s FIRST Global Challenge – founded by Dean Kamen —  an international robotics competition taking place in Washington, D.C., live streamed aquí starting on July 16 at 5:30 EDT (9:30 PM GMT) and July 17 and 18 at 8:30 AM EDT (12:30 PM GMT), this week. After going through the visa process twice, the U.S. State Department subsequently granted the team entry to the United States. Similarly, Team Gambia had their visas approved this last week after being denied the first time.

FIRST Global President, former U.S. Navy Admiral and Congressman Joe Sestak said, “I truly believe our greatest power is the power to convene nations, to bring people together in the pursuit of a common goal and prove that our similarities greatly outweigh our differences. That is why I am most grateful to the US Government and its State Department for ensuring Afghanistan, as well as Gambia, would be able to join us for this international competition this year.”
