Team Guatemala 2018

Henry Isaac Pineda García
Hello! My name is Henry Isaac Pineda García, I’m 17 years old, and I’m the captain and I’m in charge of building. I live and was born in the beautiful country of Guatemala, I started to like electronics and robotics when I was 15; before then I had no idea that something so cool existed. I like to play basketball and football, I’m bad in both, but I have a lot of fun. My favorite food is flour tortillas. I would like to study electrical engineering or mechatronic engineering in university. In the end I’m very excited to have the chance to represent Guatemala in the FIRST Global Challenge and hope we achieve a great score, and I wish good luck to all of the teams.

Luis Daniel Ramos Marroquín
My name is Daniel Ramos, I’m 18 years old. Since my childhood my favorite games have been legos, puzzles, and robots. I love robotics. My favorite subject is mathematics and I wish to study engineering at university. To be part of this international event is a dream come true, I feel honored, happy, and proud to represent my country.

Gabriel Monzon Santisteban (Programmer)
My name is Gabriel Monzon, and I’m 17 years old. This is my first time in a great experience related to robotics. One of my favorite activities is to program. I enjoy having the opportunity to think about ways to solve day-to-day problems with technology. I hope to achieve a lot and dedicate myself to what I want.

Catherine Noemí Batres Soto (Captain)
Hi, my name is Catherine and I want to share with you that when you trust yourself, your dreams really come true, because since I was 12 I dreamt to represent my country in an international competition just to make a better world using technology. I’m proud to say that now I’m the captain of the Guatemalan team to be participating in the FIRST Global Challenge 2018. Being part of a Challenge like this is awesome, because this is not only a technological competition, its somewhere teamwork is encouraged, you learn about other countries and the most important, it’s an opportunity to show the world what Guatemalans are capable of.

Carmen Jimena Santizo Monterroso (Builder and Spokesperson)
My name is Carmen and I’m 17 years old. Throughout my life I’ve been involved in the robotics branch that has made me grow as a person in different fields. Since I was 11, I’ve participated in many competitions and workshops where I’ve put my skills in practice. I’ve been a pioneer in scientific, mathematical, humanistic and technological areas. I consider myself able to solve problems and generate innovative solutions. I’m sure that I can cover and satisfy emerging needs that the world demands nowadays, help the environment and make a radical change in the whole world, but especially in Guatemala. I’m very proud to represent my native country at FGC!

Oscar Rodas (Mentor)
He received his double BS, first in Electronics Engineering, and second in Systems and Computer Science Engineering. In 2016, he obtained his PhD and a quest for research and technology transfer started. He published several papers in high ranked international conferences (AINA, IEEE Latincom, PASSAT, etc). His experience spans 15 years working in ICTs and working in open source projects and embedded applications, which he encourages his students to learn and apply. Now he works to encourage young kids to study technology through STEAM projects and that’s why he co-founded a robotics competition that has become the National Robotics Competition in Guatemala. This process is the filtering for the young kids representing his country in the FIRST Global Challenge.
