Team United States of America 2018

Team United States of America is comprised of eleven high-school students from Montgomery County, Maryland, a suburb of Washington D.C.

The members of the team are part of FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC) team 9794, Wizards.exe. At the 2017-2018 FTC World Championship in Detroit, the team was honored to win the Inspire Award, recognizing the top FTC team for excellence in robot design, engineering process, and outreach to the corporate and local community. The “Wizards” have advanced to the FTC World Championship in each of the past three years (2015-2018). Many of our members have been a part of championship FIRST® Lego League teams Mindstorm Masterminds, Organized Kaos, and Probemasters. Mindstorm Masterminds competed in the 2015 FIRST Championship in St. Louis. Organized Kaos won the Maryland State Championship and was invited to the 2016 Open European Championship in Spain. Probemasters were invited to the 2016 Arkansas Razorback Invitational.

We love to share our passion for robotics and STEM through on-line training sessions, mentoring other teams, outreach to the community, and connecting with corporate mentors. We advocate for STEM programs in K-4th grade and have started 17 FLL Jr. teams in local elementary schools. We mentor a rookie hearing-impaired rookie FTC team and are part of an initiative to promote STEM in the hearing-impaired community. Through FIRST Global, we advised Team Palestine in 2017 and Team Bosnia Herzegovina in 2018. We want to share our experiences with others and if you would like to Skype or meet with us please contact us at FGCTeamUSA2018@gmail.com. We can’t wait to meet all the teams in Mexico City.
