Team Bermuda 2019 🇧🇲

Bermuda is a fish hook shaped island, 22 miles in length and in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Our island is diverse with its colorful houses, turquoise shores, and pink sand. The team is no different. Students from both public and private schools, with varying knowledge of robotics, have come together with the goal of creating a robot that can compete on the world stage. Because Bermuda is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and kept safe by reefs, the health of the ocean is important to us. This is why we are excited that this year’s theme, Ocean Opportunities, allows us to learn more about what we can do in our community to protect our ocean and keep Bermuda beautiful.

Our team is made up of seven students and many mentors who all dedicate their time and skills to our success. As none of the students have participated in the FIRST Global Challenge before, they are excited to debut their skills in technology.

Ethan Sousa, Team Captain
Ethan is 17 years old, attends Warwick Academy, and is the captain for this year’s team. He is excited to be working on the robot as he hopes to apply what he learns to his future studies in university as a mechanical engineer.

Ethan Fox, Team Driver
Ethan is 14 years old and attends Saltus Grammar School. In his spare time, he enjoys playing games or watching YouTube videos. In the future, he hopes to create awesome and cool tech. Ethan is one of the team’s engineers, who helps with building the foundation of the robot, in addition to being one of the team’s drivers.

Jake Roberts, Team Driver
Jake is 14 years old and he is one of the drivers for this year’s team. He is excited to be a part of the 2019 FIRST Global Challenge because it gives him the opportunity to learn more about mechanics and coding.

Azari Easton, Team Engineer
Azari is 14 years old and she attends the Berkley Institute. In the future, Azari hopes to become a programmer or an astrologist. To relax, she enjoys spending time with friends and making animations using Scratch. Azari assists with designing and building how the robot will collect and transport pollutants.

Lucien Penacho, Team Engineer
Lucien is 14 years old and he assists with the building of the robot for this year’s team. By being a part of Team Bermuda, Lucien hopes to advance his skills in both coding and robotics.

Tamara Nasya Dean, Team Programmer and Engineer
Tamara is 13 years old and she attends the Whitney Institute Middle School. She helps with the design and building of how the robot will collect and transport pollutants. When Tamara grows up, she wants to become a marine biologist or zoologist with something else, undecided, on the side.

Tyzayah DeSilva, Team Engineer and Driver
Tyzayah is 16 years old and she attends The Berkeley Institute. During her free time, she enjoys going to the gym and paintings. In the future, she would like to become an architect. Tyzayah assists with the driving and building of the robot.
