Meet team Kenya, made up of five young innovators and community changemakers. All of the team members are active STEM advocates in their country.

Denis Mutinda is a passionate innovator who firmly believes in the principle that it is through making that we learn best. His key interest is in electronics and robotics. As a self-taught developer, Denis has expertise in working with prototyping platforms such as Arduino and Raspberry. While in high school, he participated in the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF) reaching up to the national level. One of his dreams is to foster a better world through his immense passion in technology. He enjoys playing basketball and swimming.

Priscillah Wambui ​is an 18 year old student at the Technical University of Kenya pursuing a degree in Land Surveying Technology. Her key interest is in engineering and technology and has participated in a LEGO robotics competition as well as co-created ‘​M-Safiri’, a mobile application that solves challenges experienced in transport sector. Together with her teammates, she participated in the World Technovation Challenge 2016 in the USA with their App M-Safiri, emerging as first runners up globally. Priscilla is passionate about using her skillset to inspire and impact young girls especially from vulnerable backgrounds. She has participated in several tech, innovation and entrepreneurial programs like Safaricom’s Women In Technology and Innovate Kenya. She spends her spare time traveling, playing basketball and solving puzzles.

Quinta Achieng ​is a recent high school graduate from Lwak Girls High School. She plans to pursue computer science at the university. Quinta loves and acknowledges Mathematics as her best subject. She is passionate about bringing a positive change in her society and loves working with other positive-minded youth. She is a member of Gifted Hearts, a youth group that performs charitable donations to orphanages within her community and she has previously conducted a drug and substance abuse summit to mark the International Day Against Drug and Substance Abuse. Quinta was an Innovate Kenya finalist for August cohort 2019, where together with her teammate, developed a mobile application to offer rehabilitation services to drug addicts. She is also an alumnus of Pacemaker International 2019 emerging has the innovator of the year through the program. She loves reading, cooking and listening to music.

Rehema Faith is a recent high school graduate of Moi High School, Kabarak. Rehema is passionate about science, technology and innovation. Her interest in solving societal problems inspired her to start Project Fmile, which is an initiative that uses technology to solve issues of mental health in her society as well as create awareness about the same. Rehema plans to pursue computer science at university as a gateway for her to explore technology and create viable solutions to some of her community problems. She enjoys swimming and blogging.

Melissa Kirwa​ is a recent high school graduate from Loreto Convent Valley Road who loves technology and innovation. She is actively involved in STEM outreach through Young Scientist Kenya program, where she has been able to inspire high school students across Kenya. She is a Technovation and Junior Achievement alumni, and Innovate Kenya finalist, where together with her team members, she came up with a mobile app that enables farmers in remote areas to access veterinary services effortlessly. She loves mentoring young people through the STEM outreach program and has volunteered at Global Minimum’s Innovate Kenya program. ​Some of her hobbies include cooking, traveling, and hockey.

Team Kenya’s biggest aspiration is to use the experience gained from the FIRST Global Challenge to impact their community and inspire other youth to love and embrace STEM.
