\"Acho que isso inspirou o que me tornei hoje - um engenheiro mec\u00e2nico em meus estudos - e a funda\u00e7\u00e3o de uma empresa...\u00a0Acho que\u00a0FIRST<\/em>\u00a0A Global realmente me deu minha primeira oportunidade\".<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keeghan Patrick foi um dos estudantes participantes do programa 2017\u00a0FIRST<\/em>\u00a0Global Challenge em Washington, D.C., representando seu pa\u00eds, Santa L\u00facia. Com apenas 18 anos de idade na \u00e9poca, ele j\u00e1 se formou na faculdade, iniciou seu programa de mestrado no Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) e fundou a\u00a0Orbtr\u00f4nica<\/a> - uma empresa de tecnologia com a miss\u00e3o de acelerar a tecnologia no Caribe por meio da cria\u00e7\u00e3o de software para facilitar os programas de educa\u00e7\u00e3o STEM.<\/p>\n

Percebi a grande divis\u00e3o tecnol\u00f3gica entre n\u00f3s e o mundo desenvolvido, ent\u00e3o eu e meu cofundador sa\u00edmos com a sensa\u00e7\u00e3o de que precis\u00e1vamos fazer algo diferente em nosso pa\u00eds. Dissemos: por que n\u00e3o temos um programa de educa\u00e7\u00e3o STEM e ensinamos aos alunos o que aprendemos na\u00a0FIRST<\/em>\u00a0Global?\".<\/h5>\n

Hoje, sua empresa emprega 10 pessoas que trabalham para fazer exatamente isso.<\/p>\n

Este ano, Keeghan e seu cofundador fundaram novamente a\u00a0FIRST<\/em>\u00a0Equipe Global de Santa L\u00facia, que estava inativa desde o Desafio de 2018. Ao fazer isso, Keeghan completou o c\u00edrculo completo de um estudante participante para um mentor de equipe, transmitindo a mesma oportunidade de mudan\u00e7a de vida que ele teve para a pr\u00f3xima gera\u00e7\u00e3o de jovens de Saint Lucian.<\/p>\n

Orbtronics Junior, um programa com dura\u00e7\u00e3o de um m\u00eas para crian\u00e7as de 11 a 16 anos que inclui desafios pr\u00e1ticos para equip\u00e1-las em rob\u00f3tica ou python.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Quando o senhor participa do\u00a0FIRST<\/em>\u00a0Globalmente, o senhor sai com uma hist\u00f3ria muito boa\", disse ele. \"Isso me deu muito reconhecimento ao me candidatar a bolsas de estudo, especialmente por ser de um pa\u00eds em desenvolvimento. Isso nos mostrou que, apesar de sermos de uma pequena ilha, podemos ter um impacto global. Quer\u00edamos dar aos alunos essa mesma oportunidade.\"<\/p>\n

E o impacto j\u00e1 est\u00e1 valendo a pena. Este ano, uma das alunas de Keeghan, Nehal, recebeu o pr\u00eamio Temasek Women in STEM. Agora, Nehal est\u00e1 trabalhando para organizar oficinas STEM para outras jovens em todo o seu pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n
