Team Guinea-Bissau 2019 🇬🇼

Our team is composed of 5 students from five different schools, as well as two mentors. Diogo is from Sao Jose Cooperative High School. José is from Kwame N’Krumah High-School. Cristiana is from Association of Portuguese School of Guinea-Bissau. Sadjo is from Educational Center Dr. Emílio Gomes. Djosefe is from Joao XXIII High-School.

We are 5 students from different tribes and backgrounds, but we all have a common passion for robotics and programming. Our team is made up of 3 boys, 2 girls and one male technical mentor, Aruna Pereira Handem, and one female non-technical mentor, Karina Nosolini Ferreira. Aruna works at NOSI as Member of the Executive Board and Software Development Manager (Technical lead).  Sadly, our team has never participated in a robotics competition before because robots are not frequent in our country. It is the second time that Guinea-Bissau is represented at a big robotics competition like this one.

Our team is a very united. We are working really hard to make this project a success, and we meet on daily basis.

Our non-technical mentor has been empowering young girls across the country as she is a member of the board Fundação Atena and leads the Npili project, which is a project to empower girls and their mothers through quality education and skills training in agriculture and value chain.

We have many constraints as we joined the competition late and some members of the team are on vacation with their parents. We also have the challenge that we don’t have much knowledge about building robots. However, we are innovators and are super motivated, so we strongly believe that will make a great contribution and help our country and the world to address current environmental and social challenges caused by industrialization and rapid population growth. Robotics is the solution for the future, so we are very proud to be part of an initiative that will make a difference and bring hope for the future generation.
