Until the end of September 2021, the FIRST Global “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” international Robotics Challenge (FGC), in which Suriname is participating for the 5th consecutive year, will run. Every year, according to team manager/mentor Ashna Mahepal, who is also the initiator of Suriname’s participation, as many new students as possible are added to the team. The mission is to introduce more and more young people to STEM/Robotics, teamwork and international collaboration, so that they are strengthened in their thinking, acting and experience, so that they can make better choices for the further development of indispensable skills and the choice for STEM careers in the near future.

Although the ranking on a list of 170+ countries is interesting to measure how ‘good’ the Surinamese team is, FIRST Global (the American organization behind FGC) and Young Help Suriname (the Surinamese counterpart organisation) attach great value to providing development opportunities. A global network is offered to as many young people as possible in all countries in the world.
