TEMA DE 2018: CONSTRUIR UNA RED ELÉCTRICA SOSTENIBLE
El impacto de la energía en nuestra vida cotidiana es de gran alcance: impulsa el transporte, ilumina los hogares y fomenta la educación. Sin embargo, la escasez de energía y la falta de infraestructuras fiables pueden hacerla costosa e inconstante. La demanda mundial de energía está aumentando, y los sistemas actuales no serán suficientes para satisfacerla. Se calcula que el uso de energía en todo el mundo aumentará un 50% de aquí a 2040. Dos soluciones identificadas en los 14 Grandes Retos de la Ingeniería son "hacer más económica la energía solar" y "obtener energía de la fusión nuclear." Si nos centramos en el impacto de los diferentes tipos de energía que utilizamos y en cómo podemos hacerlos más fiables, podemos trabajar para construir una red eléctrica más sostenible. La segunda edición del FIRST Global Challenge reunió a los equipos en la Arena Ciudad de México para competir bajo este tema en el juego titulado "Impacto Energético".

JUEGO 2018: IMPACTO ENERGÉTICO
In Energy Impact, teams learn about real-world energy challenges surrounding electrical grid connectivity and the role of diverse sources of energy. In the game, two village alliances each compete to generate more power than the opposing village through a reaction plant, a combustion plant, a wind turbine, and solar panels. Villages must then make their grid more robust by parking at the village power station at the end of the match. Villages that work together to connect the coopertition power line also receive a bonus.
