Team Cayman Islands 2022 🇰🇾

We are Team Cayman Islands, comprised of high school students and FIRST Tech Challenge competitors from five Cayman Islands schools. Brought together because of our passion for robotics we share a love for STEM and tech innovation. As a team we spread STEM knowledge through community outreach, our five corporate partners, and by inspiring Cayman’s youth. We are excited that FIRST Global provides us with a platform to help raise awareness of the need for technology education in schools. As a small caribbean island affected by climate change, evolving carbon capture technologies are critical to our future.

Diamond White: I am 16 years old, was born in Grand Cayman and I enjoy robotics, especially programming. I plan to pursue a career in this area. I enjoy math and physics and I would like to try spearfishing one day. I like playing chess, especially the Botez Gambit. Robotics gives me opportunities to solve problems using the engineering design process.

Maxwell Clarke: I was born in the Cayman Islands and I’m 15 years old. I’ve been participating in robotics and robotics competitions since 7th grade. I started robotics in Atlanta, Georgia then moved back home to Cayman and pursued competitions there. Even before I joined my school’s team in 7th grade I was interested in robotics and STEAM for years. I’ve had an interest in learning more about coding and engineering since I was very young, and I’ve always enjoyed the process of understanding objects and concepts.

Michael Marzouca: I was born in the Cayman Islands. My hobbies include solving a system of linear inequalities and speaking Spanish. Ola! Soy 16! I am an avid tic tac toe prodigy. My peers describe me as serious, focused, and concentrated. I am also a big anime addict – I watched the first episode of AoT! I’ve reached the point where I see robotics as a fourth way of life, and I enjoy employing the scientific method.

Alexander Walters: I was born in the Cayman Islands, but my parents are from the US and UK. I am 16 years old, and my interests include Formula One racing, robotics and fish keeping. I have an interest in STEM and I am passionate about building and designing to solve problems. I have five siblings but only live with one of them.

Marissa Wright: I am 14 years old and I was born in Jamaica. From a young age I’ve been interested in STEM subjects, however I only learned about robotics last year at my school. As an aspiring biomedical engineer, robotics has given me insight into the design and build process. I love hands-on learning and solving problems as they arise. I dream that someday robotics may help me get into MIT.

Teejhan Hansraj: I am 15 years old and was born in Guyana. I moved to the Cayman Islands at the age of 7. I compete in many sports including football, cricket, volleyball, softball, baseball, track and field, table tennis, tennis, badminton, chess, and swimming. I really like robotics and am current pursuing my degree in computer science. Listening to music is one of my favourite hobbies and some of my favourite artists are Lil Uzi Vert, Kanye and Travis Scott.

Drew Plania: I am 14 years old, and I was born in the Cayman Islands. I’ve been coding since I was 9 years old, and I have been sketching since I was 13. I’ve always loved combining both the sciences and arts, which is why I sketch, sing, play piano and flute, as well as code and study science. Although building robots isn’t my main interest or strength, I have a passion for coding, especially to creating my own video games.

Kyah Morris: I am 15 years old. I was born in Great Britain, and I lived there for 4 ½ years before moving to New Jersey. After living in New Jersey for 6 years, my family decided to move to the Cayman Islands. In New Jersey I did Vex IQ robotics qualified for a national championship at the age of 10. Alongside robotics, I love to write songs, draw, play chess, listen to music, and play video games. My favorite musical artist is probably Vampire Weekend, and my favorite song is Keep Your Head Up Princess by Anson Seabra. Someday I strive to be a positive influence in the engineering and/or robotics fields.
