Dean Kamen is a prolific inventor, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate for science and technology. His roles as an inventor and an advocate are intertwined with his passion for practical, real-world uses of technology, and his personal determination to spread excitement for the virtues of STEM to the more than two billion youths around the world. Dean’s drive comes from his firm belief that the tools of science and engineering will help equip the world’s youth to solve the most pressing global challenges we face as a planet, both today and tomorrow. One of Dean’s proudest accomplishments is founding both FIRST® and FIRST® Global, organizations dedicated to motivating the next generation to understand, use, and enjoy science and technology.

Jeff May joined FIRST Global in 2021 as the organization’s President. Previously, Jeff was Vice President, Global Public Policy at Merck & Co., where he oversaw the global and regional policy and government affairs teams. He also served as Chair of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) Council – the organization that represents the industry before international and multilateral organizations. Prior to Merck, Jeff was Vice President, International Affairs at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and directed PhRMA’s advocacy efforts in Europe, Latin America, Canada, the Middle East and Africa as well as its Market Access in Developed Countries Committee. Jeff has held various senior positions at the U.S. Department of Commerce, including Deputy Assistant Secretary for Import Administration. Prior to that, Jeff worked at the law firm of Steptoe & Johnson on international trade matters.
Jeff received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law and his A.B. from Brown University. During his primary and secondary school years, Jeff lived in England (4 years), Thailand (3 years), and Brazil (5 years). He previously served as the U.S. representative to the World Trade Organization’s Permanent Group of Experts on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures.
