Sustainable food production is one of the defining challenges of the 21st century.
The Feeding the Future New Technology Experience guides teams in learning about the technologies that support sustainable food systems. FIRST Global teams will research and develop their own solutions to improve the type of foods produced, methods of production, and waste reduction, while highlighting how the application of these technologies benefits economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

FIRST Global has collaborated with the Smithsonian Institution and the Smithsonian Science Education Center (SSEC) on the 2024 FIRST Global Challenge – Feeding the Future. The following resources are provided to FIRST Global teams to aid in their New Technology Experience research.
Food! How Do We Ensure Good Nutrition for All?
Food! is a freely available community research guide developed by the Smithsonian Science Education Center (SSEC) in partnership with the InterAcademy Partnership as part of the Smithsonian Science for Global Goals project.
Food! is a module broken up into seven parts. Each part contains a series of tasks to complete. Each task contains additional resources to support that task. We have provided a suggested order for the parts and tasks. However, the structure of the guide hopefully allows you to customize your learning experience by selecting which parts, tasks, and resources you would like to utilize and in what order you would like to complete them.
