Team Jamaica brings a “Melting Pot” of cultures, backgrounds, and skills to the table. Coming from 5 parishes and 21 high schools, each of us bring our own unique qualities in service of our Team’s end goal: to dominate this year’s competition in as many categories as possible, to place our country on the map in STEM development, and to take any newly-developed expertise back to our respective communities.

Our initial members were recommended by our coaches and teachers based on outstanding performance in school STEM subjects, as well as in the most recent local FIRST Tech Challenge. From the initial 30, after careful monitoring and discussion among our mentors, 5 traveling and 6 supporting members were selected for our main competition squad, each of which took on one or two of 4 roles: Engineering, Programming, Computer Aided Design, and Documentation.

We, as a team, believe that the implementation of sustainable initiatives, especially those that integrate our natural resources, is necessary in guaranteeing the long-term growth of our nation. Consequently, the theme of Hydrogen Horizons hits home for our team as Jamaica is making strides in clean energy technology in spite of our heavy reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
