01 Nov OUR ROBOT IS NOT ONLY PURE SCIENCE: Girls from Serbia Delight in Robotics Olympiad in Dubai!
Mina Matic, Sara Jasovic and Jelena Tomasevic are students of Gymnasium “Creative Feather”, Jelena Zdravkovic is a student of Nis Electrotechnical “Mija Stanimirovic”, and Tara Malovic is a Belgrade student who attends Serbian High School “Nikola Tesla” in Budapest.
They are the team that represented Serbia at the International Robotics Olympiad held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Serbia participated in this major competition for the third time.
“On the first day of the competition we were in the famous “La Perle” theater where we carried the flag of Serbia and presented our country to other participants in firs. The founder of First Global, Dean Kamen, the organizer of the competition himself, as well as the UAE Minister of Artificial Intelligence, His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olam, then addressed us, and His Majesty Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended the opening ceremony. crowned Prince of Dubai. It all ended with an incredible dance, acrobatic, stage and musical performance. That performance is something we will remember all our lives,” young robotics recall.
Our team at the opening ceremony was also supported by His Excellency Stanimir Vukicevic, Serbian ambassador to the UAE. After the ceremony, he spoke with the girls and their mentors and wished them much success.
“We are a women’s team, which is very rare in this competition and in STEM in general. That is why Anousheh Ansari, the first woman to be on the International Space Station, came to meet us personally. We are very honored and grateful for this opportunity,” they explain, adding that the easiest part of the competition was just meeting new friends and making contacts.
“The main objective of this project is to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers among young people. However, we went a step further with our robot. As he had a hand-painted section, he was a STEAM representative. It is the same as STEM, but Arts has also been added, as it is very important to develop an artistic part of the personality among young people,” they explain, adding that the easiest part of the competition was just meeting new friends and making contacts.
