El FIRST Global Challenge

SINGAPORE 2023 🇸🇬

THE 2023 FIRST GLOBAL CHALLENGE

From 7-10 October 2023, students from 190 countries united in Singapore to collaboratively compete in a thrilling game highlighting the importance of renewable energy. Singapore is at the forefront of sustainability initiatives, making them a great choice for this theme. Learn more on the 2023 archive page here.

FIRST Global believes that by making science and technology as exciting as any other sport, we can inspire the world’s two billion youth to pursue STEM fields and be the leaders who collectively solve our planet’s most pressing problems.

As our dependence on energy continues to grow, it becomes increasingly important to innovate the solutions that will ensure a cleaner and more equitable energy future around the world. Renewable energy comes from natural sources that are continually replenished, including the sun, wind, heat within the earth, and water. This year’s theme calls on FIRST Global teams to reimagine the future of energy and create more sustainable ways to power our planet.

The 2023 FIRST Global Challenge focuses specifically on the role of hydrogen in the planet’s renewable energy and reduced carbon future. Hydrogen-based energy technologies allow for enhanced methods of carrying and storing the energy generated from renewables.

The Hydrogen Horizons game challenges shifting alliances of three national teams to work together to build renewable energy networks, demonstrating the collective effort required to develop sustainable energy. Teams must navigate their robots in the simulated game to produce hydrogen and use it to store, transport, and convert energy.

El New Technology Experience (NTE) is a means for the student community to stay current with cutting edge technology. The 2023 FIRST Global Challenge NTE— Energy Evolution — takes FIRST Global teams beyond the Hydrogen Horizons game. In this component of the season, students learn about all types of renewable energy, including hydrogen technologies, and then develop their own innovative solutions within their communities and nations to create a cleaner energy future.

2023 NATIONAL TEAMS
