Team Turkey 2019 🇹🇷

We are Team Bahçeşehir Science and Technology High School, located in Istanbul, Turkey. Our team was established 8 years ago by full scholarship and boarding students who came from all corners of Turkey in order to participate in FRC (FIRST Robotic Competition), which is known as one of the most prestigious international high school competitions, organized in the USA by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) annually.

We were granted various awards in these competitions thanks to our robots whose mechanics, electronics, and programming parts completely belong to the team members, and every part of the robots are being designed by us, high school students. In the competitions, each team is evaluated by the presentations that are presented to the judges and the performances that are revealed in robot matches. Thus far, we were granted one Woodie Flower, two Winner Awards, and three Chairman Awards. Woodie Flower Award is presented to mentors who best lead, inspire, and empower their team. Winner is presented to the team that shows the best performances in the robot matches, and the Chairman Award, which is the most prestigious award among all awards, is presented to the teams that best embody the mission of FIRST and represents a model for other people. Two years ago in New York, we became the first alliance captain Turkish Team of the unity of first three teams that was granted the FIRST Seed Awards. After New York, our robot deserved to be in the top 20 teams in the World Championship that was organized in Houston, USA. In this year, we  deserved to move on to compete on the Einstein Field which is declared the FIRST World Champions, and also outstood 8 thousand teams in terms of the field of Chairman’s Awards and became the World Chairman’s Award Finalist.

In this FRC process, apart from mechanical and electronical fields, we are getting involved in lots of social responsibility and scientific projects, such as Science Truck that helped us to reach 50 thousand disadvantaged students all around Turkey and instill in them the wonders of science, Young Diplomats Conference that is being organized by team members for 5 years in order to find solutions to global issues, and #Girls1stTurkiye campaign which inspires girls to be more confident in STEM fields. To promote this idea, we shot an inspiring video with the first & only female wing commander of the Turkish Air Force. Also, we created a system which identifies the location of the runaway refugees and sends that data to authorities. By the help of this system we contributed a lot to Turkish Naval Forces and became the winner on Energy Efficiency Project Competition. Additionally, in the history of Turkish Republic, we are the first high school students who created 4 curriculum for either middle school and high school. Since robotics has become a huge part of our lives and also something we gained a lot from, we wanted other students to benefit from it as well. Our curriculum is full of engineering skills and also the topics vary from the origins of the history of robotics to complicated ones.

In this year, we are going to participate in FGC (FIRST Global Challenge) in October for the first time, which is being organized in Dubai. After this tournament, our goal is to improve ourselves in terms of FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) and then establish a FTC team in our school.
