Team Honduras 2021 is composed of young people from small villages and rural communities in the mountains of Intibucá, Honduras C.A.; the team members are of Lenca heritage; most of the team members are elementary and high school students from different educational institutions in the department. Each member has different objectives, life purposes, and ways of thinking, but all with a common goal: to finish our high school studies and graduate with a university degree to be professionals with proponents for change in our communities and contribute to the greatness of our country. We don’t take our studies for granted. Most children in Honduras do not continue going to school past sixth grade, and our families have made a great sacrifice for us to be in high school. However, living in small towns where opportunities and jobs are hard to find, we know that an education could change the trajectory and better the future of our families and our communities.  We are a very brand-new team, none of us has knowledge about robotics, but this experience has allowed us to take on a great challenge and responsibility to learn about robotics and be able to represent our country.

The team expects to deepen the robotics projects aimed at solving educational, environmental, health, and economic problems. We know that there are a variety of obstacles to overcome, such as difficulties in transportation for the training sessions, training time, climate, and connectivity difficulties. It should be noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the sessions have been through virtual platforms, especially Zoom; many times, the connectivity failure has implied moving from one place to another to get signal, walking more than an hour to the educational center, sometimes in the rain. At the beginning of this process, there was no experience in robotics, but over time experience has been accumulated and passed on to the new participants.

These programs require maximum performance from each of us both physically and intellectually; however, we are willing to take on the challenge and move forward with designing, building, and programming robots and competing locally to be the best.

In the area of education we can bet on educational technology because there are few efforts in this area; in the environment, the generation of clean energy, since the energy sources that we have are not effective enough and are polluting and destroying our environment, we could generate clean and alternative energy without destroying our world, which makes us reflect and think that if we choose as a country to invest in new energy sources we could save the beautiful environment in which we live; in health, it is essential to address preventive health; and in economics to strengthen technologies for economic growth.

The most important thing in life is to work to solve the problems of the community and meet our goals and objectives.
