Team Hong Kong, China 2021 🇭🇰

Team Hong Kong is formed by 1 Grade 11, 1 Grade 10 and 3 Grade 9 students from the same high school. We come primarily from FIRST® Tech Challenge team 85213 (SKSS Village) and participated in 3 seasons in FTC Hong Kong Tournament and the 2018 FIRST® Global Challenge in Mexico. In this year, we won the Inspire Award and Top Ranked Team Award (1st) in Hong Kong and joined the Asia Pacific Open Championship. All of us are passionate about robotics and aim to improve human’s quality of life by using our own knowledge and STEAM.

Due to the pandemic, it is very difficult for us to come back to school for learning and gathering for FTC and FGC, so we truly know how the pandemic seriously affects us. However, it is manifest that not only students, but also people with different roles in the society are suffering from it. In light of this, our team hopes to develop a practical solution to help people in need in the society as well as to protect Hong Kong from this pandemic. When all of us work hard together, our planet can recover from the pandemic in no time.

We are excited and eager to tackle the challenges in our journey!

Self Introductions

Jimmy:
I have been a robot enthusiast since primary school for 10 years. I have participated in many LEGO robotics competitions since grade 1. However, it is my first-time playing in FGC, which has large discrepancies compared with normal robotics competition, as it also requires me to probe and deal with the current issues. It is definitely a new challenge to me. As a robotics enthusiast, I genuinely hope my STEAM knowledge can be used to improve quality of life in the world. In this competition, I am eager to learn from my teammates and other teams so as to enrich my experience.

Wilfred:
I started to become interested in robotics when I was in grade 3. I went on to take part in many events related to robotics since then and have gained experience throughout all of them. This is my first time participating in a large-scale event, so I will strive to learn new techniques, reach out further and enhance my knowledge on robotics and STEAM in general.

Anson:
The first time I came into contact with robotics was in grade 5. It has been an unforgettable experience. Immediately afterwards, I started to be interested in robotics and joined the school robotics team in high school. Although I lacked knowledge of robotics and programming. I still worked hard to do my best in it. Fortunately, after a year, I got an award in the WRO local competition. In the future, I would like to catch more opportunities of participating in competitions to help me to gain more experience and knowledge of robotics.

Don:
I have been joining the robotics team since grade 7, although I got less experience than other teammates, I still work hard to try my best at any time. After that, I slowly built up my interests in robotics, fortunately I got an opportunity to take part in the WRO competition with my teammate Wilfred and won an award. In the future, I would like to participate in more competitions so as to gain more experience just like I joined FGC this time. It can surely help me reach further and learn more about robotics skills and knowledge.

Osman:
I have joined the robotics team in both elementary and high school. In the previous year, I participated in different robotics competitions like WRO and FTC. In this trend of the growth of either AI or robotics technology, FGC is one of the best opportunity to learn to analyze the problem and deal with the issue by using robotics. I hope I can broaden my horizon but also enhance my knowledge in STEAM.
