22 May Team Bermuda 2022 🇧🇲
Bermuda is located in the western north Atlantic Ocean, 650 miles east of North Carolina. Our small island is made up of 7 main islands and only 22 miles long. Our population is approximately 60,000 eclectic and diverse group of people. Therefore, Team Bermuda is made up of a diverse group of public and private school students from the Connectech Coding Robotics Club. Our team members range from 12 – 18 years of age and we are all learning from each other. It is our hope and plan that the younger students on Team Bermuda will gain knowledge and experience needed to become the travel team for future FIRST Global Challenges. 2022 Team Bermuda is our largest team yet with 21 team members and 4 mentors: Coral Wells, Zär’a Cardell, Malachi Butterfield and Rian Michelsen. Team Bermuda has participated in the 2017, 2018, 2019 and now the 2022 FGC. We are excited for the challenge ahead, to meet new people and work together to make our climate and world a better place.
Raya Burgess: My name is Raya Burgess, I am 12 years old, and I go to Mount Saint Agnes Academy in Bermuda. I have done a few robotics camps including Connect Tech. I love robots and have always wanted to build one with a team. I am good with computers and did scratch when I was little. My family has bought a few kits on making robots, but it was nothing to a scale that I would have wanted so now I am very excited to be at Connect Tech. I would like to make a change to the world about climate change and inform people about the cause. If we make a robot to help climate change that would really help the earth.
Jena Caines: I am Jena Caines, I am 15 years old, and I attend Cedarbridge Academy. Through my time of coding and robotics I have been in several coding camps and a robotics class where we built and coded a robot from scratch. What I am looking forward to in this experience is to understand how to combat climate change and carbon dioxide effects in the atmosphere, but also get good experience from creating an even bigger robot with a greater purpose.
Tiko Caines: My name is Tiko Caines, I am 17 years old, and I go to a public high school, CedarBridge Academy. I got into robotics when I was in middle school. During that time, I had also participated in a robotics competition in which we made ROVs with the purpose of diving underwater to pick up trash. In high school, I studied computer sciences and created video games through my own creativity while obtaining an A. During my time in this competition, I can expect to work and cooperate with my peers as well as other groups around the world to help stop climate change within our planet.
