22 May Team Canada 2022 🇨🇦
Hi! We are FIRST Global Team Canada. We are a community team that combines 4 FTC teams from the lower mainland in BC. We have two members from Forces Unknown #16267, one member from Parabellum 16031, one member from St. Pat’s Celtic Silverfish #18589, and one member from Khalsa 1 #18841. Together we have a combined experience of 18 years with FIRST doing robotics in both FLL and FTC. We are so excited to put our combined experience, strengths, and varied perspectives to use in preparation for the FIRST Global Challenge.
Team Canada comprises nine students from across British Columbia this FIRST Global season. Our team members came together from four FTC (and one FRC) teams to compete in the FGC competition. With us, we have one mentor from each of the FTC teams: Ana, Kevin, Gulbagh, Marc, and Chris Hadfield (we wish!). We are excited to put our combined experience, strengths, and varied perspectives into the FIRST Global Challenge.
So far, we have held robotics demonstrations around the Lower Mainland to promote our team and FIRST Robotics. We also encouraged students in our camp to start FLL teams and informed parents about the process and competition.
We have been participating in the Global STEM Corp as an advisor team. We support them in bringing their ideas to reality and working with them through conference calls and meetings, despite the significant language barrier. Good thing we’re all fluent in Google Translate! Our team has also spent hours on projects with other countries, such as the music video for Team Turkmenistan, poem mashup for Team Nigeria and Global Talks with Team Mexico, while also seeking sponsors to help pay the registration fee. We’ve held fundraising events such as summer FLL camps, sold donuts and participated in the City of Delta parade and the Granville Street promenade in Vancouver.
Our team supports an online community where FGC teams can reach out with questions and concerns or engage in discussion through Discord.
We are enthusiastic about collaborating and competing alongside such a large number of teams and representing our country on a global scale.
Our Values:
Unite: We want to unite people from different cities and cultures to gain different perspectives.
Collaborate: We are excited to work with other teams from around the globe, both in learning from them and sharing our expertise.
Grow: We are looking forward to growing our own knowledge by learning applicable industry skills.
Build: We love to build robots!
Inspire: We will inspire others to make an impact on the world!
Team Members:
Kieran: Hi, I’m Kieran. I am 16 years old and will be starting Grade 12 in September. I come from Forces Unknown #16267 where I have been a member for 3 years, co-captain for 2. In addition to my 3 years in FTC, I have 1 year of FLL experience bringing my total to 4 years of experience. My main roles are design and programming.
Lulu: Heyo! My name is Lulu, I’m currently 17 (going into Grade 12) and I’m from Forces Unknown #16267. I’ve been a part of FIRST for 5 years, and have been the co-captain of my team along side Kieran for the last 2. My main roles are outreach, building, and programming support.
Allen: Hello! I’m Allen, I’m 17 and going into Grade 12 next year. I did 3 years of FLL and have been doing FTC for the last 3 years with Parabellum #16031. I do programming, building, CAD, and outreach.
Emmy: Hey, I’m Emmy! I’m 14 at the moment and will be starting in grade 10 next year. I’m with Celtic Silverfish #18589. I’ve had a strong interest in robotics and have participated in dozens of camps with UBC, but I’ve only been in FTC for a year. In my team, I was the sole programmer, and did some building and design when my teammates were unable to.
Avneet: Hey, I’m Avneet! I’m 16 years old and I’m going into Grade 12 this upcoming fall. I’m from the team KSS1 #18841. I have 2 years of experience in robotics and with FIRST, as a co-captain and programmer.
Thank you to our supporters!
