26 May Team Iraq 2022 🇮🇶
Hello everyone… we are Team Iraq. The national representation of Team Iraq in the 2022 FIRST Global Challenge and the past five years. Team Iraq is one of the projects of the Science Camp. Science Camp is the first physical Maker Space/Fab Lab in Iraq (according to the MITs standards), part of the global maker movement and global innovation gathering (gig e.v.) founded by US Department of State exchange program alumnus (GIST 2017) (Nawres Arif) (also Nawres is the president of the southern chapter of the alumni community (IIAA Iraqi Independent Alumni Association).
Science Camp is working in Iraq to support STEM and technology-dependent entrepreneurship, working together with our international friends on mindset change and a cultural shift of youth towards entrepreneurship, innovation, digital transformation, and countering Climate Change, Science Camp is part of the Fab Labs network working on the UN SDGs since 2019 and team Iraq members are part of the Science Camp community.
Our team consists of students from different schools in Basra city. They met in the Science Camp (the Iraqi Maker Space/Fab Lab) and developed a connection with each other, and this is the place where they work to represent their country internationally and make relationships with their international STEM-interested peers from other FIRST Global international teams. Our team is interested and passionate in robotics and STEM fields and each of us has skills that, when combined, will create a wonderful team with great results.
This is our organization’s sixth time supporting team Iraq in the FIRST Global challenge and this participation will allow us to be a source of inspiration for youth in local and international countries, and we hope that we achieve the results we aspire to.
Our team usually consists of STEM enthusiasts. Most of our team (founder, mentors & students) are experienced in international exchange programs, and they have international friendships while being active in peace-building.
To provide a better experience and more inclusiveness, and to keep Team Iraq renew members, Science Camp makes Team Iraq consists of an air team (the official and fits FIRST Global Challenge criteria & requirements), and a ground team (under-age STEM enthusiasts, who plan to be next year’s air team).
Team Iraq is usually divided functionally into mechanic and design, programming, and media, to cover all the FIRST Global Challenge technical requirements, and to provide organized teamwork.
Science Camp provides a well-equipped infrastructure of workshops & tools for innovation, represents the best incubator to build, support, and launch Team Iraq, to represent the country with peace-building, cultural exchange, and global friendship responsibilities with the STEM theme to work together to solve the global issues as humans. Every year, Team Iraq students experience exciting social and cultural experiments through they learn more about other countries’ languages, cultures, and food, and carry the message of correcting the stereotype of Iraq, which is mainly related to the misleading media of war and conflict. They show that they belong to the global youth with their deep history toward the global future based on innovation and big dreams.
Team Iraq contributed to the FIRST Global Challenge for raising awareness of global issues and understanding the FIRST Global event as a collaboration event rather than a competition.
Thank you to our supporters!
