Team Ireland 2023 🇮🇪

Our team consists of 8 students: Joel, Ben, Kushal, Smrithi, Sophia, Johnny, Ryan and Pranav. We also have three mentors, Ms Mary Selkirk (Maths/Physics Teacher and former FGC mentor) Mr Eoghan Craven-Grace and Mr Pawel Zielinski (Former FGC participants).

We are a group of 8 ambitious students who are 16-18 years of age and all attend the secondary school Confey Community College in County Kildare and along with the help of our 3 mentors, will be representing our beautiful nation and are more than ready to leave our mark in this year’s edition of the competition.

Our journey as a robotics team started back in 2019 with the FIRST Lego League, a similar STEM competition. Since then, we have gone on to compete nationally and internationally in several other robotics competitions. This year we return to the competition that made our team what it is today. Using the skills we have learned over the years, we hope to demonstrate once again what our talented team is capable of.
Ireland has a remarkable history steeped in technological advancements, from the invention of the submarine to the steam turbine. There have also been several more recent, exciting advancements in fields like renewable energy – particularly to do with hydrogen and more efficient ways to do water electrolysis. However, like many regions around the globe, we face our own set of challenges, particularly in preserving our environment and fostering sustainable practices. With unwavering optimism and a passion for collaboration, we strive to harness the power of technology and teamwork to create a brighter future, not just for Ireland, but for the world.

Hi, I’m Smrithi. I enjoy baking and web design. In school, my favourite subject is technical graphics. In the future, I aspire to pursue a career in the field of architecture. I’m excited to compete in the FGC Competition, as I want to take it as an opportunity to learn more about mechanical design. I also look forward to working with new people from different countries, all throughout the competition.

Ryan
My name is Ryan. I have a great interest in robotics and all things electronic. I am studying technical graphics and computer science. In the future, I hope to study aerospace engineering or mechanical/electrical engineering. I cannot wait to participate in the FIRST Global Challenge and work with our team as well as other teams from all around the world. I feel it will be a great and enjoyable experience.

Sophia
Hi, I’m Sophia and I’m interested in music and STEM, particularly maths as I hope to pursue a career in mathematics in the future. I currently study physics, applied maths and maths. I can’t wait to further my learning in STEM and have the opportunity to communicate with so many other nations through competing in the 2023 FIRST Global Challenge.

Kushal
Hello, My name is Kushal and I’m 16. Some of my favourite subjects in school are math, graphics and physics while I enjoy playing the piano and swimming outside of school. I’m very excited to take part in the FGC 2023 as I would love to learn more about the practical side of STEM regarding the robotics competition side of things and I would also love to collaborate with other teams.

Pranav
Hi, I’m Pranav, I’m very interested in sports and engineering. I currently study Engineering and Computer Studies in school. I am extremely excited to attend the 2023 FIRST Global Challenge in Singapore, I am looking forward to meeting new people as well as improving my knowledge in STEM.
