Matthew Douglas is the Mentor to FIRST Global Team Barbados with over twenty-five years’ experience as an Electronics and Electrical Technology Teacher. He is keen to share his knowledge and experience in robotics with young children in order to lay a foundation for further development and works tirelessly after classes and during vacation periods to teach and mentor students.
Alex Henry is a returning member of the team who is excited to attend this year’s FGC in Panama. He previously attended FGC as a student participant and welcomes his new role as Assistant Mentor. Alex has a passion for art, design, electronics and robotics. He is keen to pursue a career within the robotic field of engineering since from childhood he enjoyed breaking down toys and putting them back together as well as making innovative designs with Legos. He also enjoyed using science kits given as gifts, drawing and inventing new ideas for various artwork. The opportunity to attend a robotics camp in 2018 fuelled his passion for inventing robotic creations and since then he has never stopped attending these camps.
Makai Beckles-Lewis is a 14 year old student of the Combermere School who likes animals and robotics. His favourite animals are tigers and Komodo dragons. Makai is excited to attend the FIRST Global Challenge in Panama because he will get to see many different cultures.
Deran Coward-Callender is a 14 year old student of the Combermere School. He is an anime fan and is also interested in robotics. Deran is looking forward to the 2025 FIRST Global Challenge especially for the fun of interacting with people from different countries who have the same interests.
Nathan Douglas currently attends The Lodge School. He is 15 years of age, enjoys mechanics and his hobbies are playing Roblox, football, construction of Legos and robotics technology. Nathan decided to attend robotics camp to further his technical knowledge and skills. He loves the mechanical aspect and eagerly looks forward to participating in the upcoming competition in Panama.
Christopher Smith is a 13 year old student of the St. Winifred’s School who likes robotics, cars and Roblox. Christopher is excited to be a member of the team and looks forward to when he can experience various cultures at the FIRST Global Challenge.
Kurt Hazell is 16 years of age and recently completed his examinations at the Combermere School. He lives in the rural parish of St. Joseph and likes reading, gaming and sports. Kurt was a member of his school’s team for high jump and volleyball. He enjoys robotics, works diligently and is excited to be a member of FIRST Global Team Barbados.
