Meet FGC’s own Team Kosovo! Kosova is a small young country in south-eastern Europe where over 50% of the population is under 30 and which has a very rich historic and cultural background. Most recently, it has become a leading tech hub (with one of the first hubs for 5G and mixed reality, and one of the first and only AI-powered universities in the world – UBT – where our lab is!), the homeland of many superstars known all over the world (e.g. Dua Lipa), as well as, the birthplace of multiple world champions and medalists in the sport of Judo (e.g. Majlinda Kelmendi). Taking inspiration from all this, our mission is to add a further accolade to our country and have it known for creating world-wide champions of the sport of robotics through our participation in the FIRST Global Challenge.

The team looking to turn this mission into a reality is composed of both FGC first-timers and alumni, which helps make learning seamless, accessible, and more exciting for every member and thus, turns this project into a long-term one where we can truly make a change across generations of Kosovar youth. Except for robotics, our team members enjoy hobbies across all spectrums: from ballet to painting, to fashion design, to web design, to car mechanics, to tennis and even more. This always ensures fresh new creative perspectives which positively affect our process of building the robot and of enjoying every team meeting while doing it.

Our team members are hiking lovers as well – joining several hiking and walking groups across the year to take on the beautiful landscape which Kosova offers: from mountains to valleys and everything in-between. Kosova is even one of the only two countries in the world with the natural river bifurcation phenomenon – with the river Nerodimja divided into two branches, one of which flows to the Aegean Sea and the other to the Black Sea. Our close connection to nature is what makes this year’s topic – Eco Equilibrium, incredibly important to us. We want to learn more about our responsibilities in ensuring the proper conservation of biodiversity and we’d like to become pioneers in connecting the youth and STEM of Kosova into more projects which prioritize this goal.

Team Kosova believes that our voices and actions are powerful, and if we only have the will, the determination, and the passion, we can push many causes forward and make the world a better place.
