Team Sri Lanka 2025 🇱🇰

Team Sri Lanka 2025 is composed of a highly skilled and multi-talented group of students, many of whom bring valuable experience from FTC – India, 2025 – where they secured 2nd place in the rankings and earned the prestigious Control Award. In addition, the team includes one returning member with experience from FGC 2024, bringing insight and leadership to this year’s challenge.
Now stepping into the FIRST Global Challenge as a unified force, they are ready to showcase their robotics expertise and make their mark on the global stage.

Tharul (17) – Tharul is the team’s lead coder, co-driver and captain of his school’s Robotics and Coding Club, leading the team with his technical mastery and prodigious programming skill. Tharul returns – decorated – to the FIRST Global Challenge for his second year, ready for a new year of success to amplify his previous achievements in Athens in 2024, with him winning the Gold medal for Zhang Heng Engineering Design Award. His secret to his coding talent lies in his efficient, competition-conquering code, allowing our team to pull off not only a wonderful teleop, but a masterful, 93rd percentile auto in the 2025 FIRST Tech Challenge, thus, enabling our team to rank 2nd in the FTC India Championships and win the Control Award. Tharul’s achievements in local robotics competitions are further proof of his talent, with him winning the 2024 IESL Robogames, Sri Lanka and being a finalist in the 2024 and 2025 Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge. Arguably the most essential member of the team, Tharul’s understanding of software and strategy cannot be understated, with him ready to lead Team Sri Lanka to its greatest successes in Panama this year.

Lisara (16) – Lisara is a masterful, unmatched CAD designer with virtuosic knowledge of Autodesk Fusion and a meticulous approach to robot design. Being the team’s lead designer, Lisara’s expertise has been instrumental in designing Team Sri Lanka’s robot this year, preparing our team for success in Panama later this year. His proficiency in 3D design is paralleled by his equally impressive prowess in mathematics and mathematical Olympiads, being a three-time finalist in Sri Lanka’s National Mathematics Olympiad in 2022, 2023, and 2025. Moreover, Lisara is a skilled competitive programmer – a finalist in the 2025 National Olympiad of Informatics – and is an avid cellist and pianist, being the captain of his school’s Orchestra Club, equally talented in both technical and musical pursuits.

Kavindu (17) – Kavindu is a robot building enthusiast, whose technical talent is reflected in his hands-on approach to robotics, ensuring that he knows how to put the pieces together for every single robot. Kavindu’s excellence isn’t limited to the workbench, however; Kavindu helped carry our team to success as our human player in the 2025 FIRST Tech Challenge. He also is a master strategist, easily formulating the best strategy for the team’s wins using his knowledge of the game manual, reflecting both his intelligence and passion for robotics. Kavindu’s passions are reflected in him being a fan of cars, F1, and an avid player of Asphalt Legends, exemplifying his competitive, collaborative and speed-driven personality.

Lithum (16) – Lithum is a skilled CAD designer and driver, with an intrinsic talent for both using and implementing the REV Build System. His CAD skills, while impressive, are only second to his talent in driving, enabling him to be the team’s driver in the FIRST Tech Challenge earlier this year and helping our team secure 2nd place in the FTC India Championships. Beyond robotics, Lithum pursues a well-rounded life by integrating technical and physical productivity – maintaining an active lifestyle while continuously honing his skills in music and gaming, he exemplifies the principle of balanced, optimised personal growth.

Risini (17) – Risini, despite being the newest to robotics, quickly started her robotics journey by participating in the 2025 FIRST Tech Challenge and honing her skills in 3D Design, helping the team design an efficient and reliable intake system – proof of her capability in 3D sketching. She continued her robotics journey with her participation in the 2025 Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge, and now joining Team Sri Lanka for FIRST Global as a CAD designer, enthusiastic to further display and improve upon her already impressive skill. What started as simple curiosity soon became a deeply rewarding pursuit, proving the power of robotics as a tool to rapidly grasp engineering and design concepts. Beyond robotics, Risini is an avid reader and a badminton player.
