In contributing to this award, Dean Kamen noted that, “Margaret and Woodie Flowers are and were an inspiration, not only intellectually, but personally, ethically and emotionally. They have worked tirelessly so that young people throughout the world will master the universal language of science, technology, engineering and math. Through this common platform, teams collaborate with one another across all boundaries to solve our common problems. It is my honor to help fund this important award in recognition of Margaret and Woodie’s contributions, and to inspire all our FIRST Global mentors to follow in their enormous footsteps.”
“I am delighted not only to be honored by this award, but also to be able to participate with Dean in the funding of this award,” stated Margaret Flowers. She commented further, “Like Dean, who himself has worked tirelessly to mentor our young people, I hope this award will inspire the FIRST Global mentors to join the FIRST Woodie Flowers Award winners and do the important work of guiding our young people to lead meaningful lives and work with students from all around the world to combat poverty, food scarcity, disease, social and economic inequalities, ignorance and to promote peace.”
