Four Vietnamese with a passion for robotics engineered a bronze medal at the 2018 FIRST Global Challenge in Mexico City, with their team winning seven of the eight games in the qualifying round.

Drawn from students at the private FPT High School, the team ranked 12th out of the 165 national teams in the competition, which was a big improvement from its 2017 effort of 58th from 175 teams, Vietnam Plus reported. The theme of the competition was ‘Energy Impact’.

Teamed with Estonian and Eritrean contestants, the Vietnamese secured 6,350 points in the qualifying round, but eventually lost to participants from Qatar, the United Kingdom and Georgia.

Le Ngoc Tuan, head of the Vietnamese delegation, said he was delighted by the students’ performance.
