[vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"] Singapore is an island city-state in SouthEast Asia, a “Little Red Dot” at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. As a multicultural, cosmopolitan citystate, Singaporeans celebrate and embrace a multitude of cultural and religious practices, with most effectively bilingual in English and their mother tongue. Known for being a "City In a Garden", Singapore's position as a tropical trade and financial hub has allowed itself to consciously shape its clean and green image since attaining independence a mere 54 years ago. Singapore is no stranger to the problems represented in this year's challenge, Ocean Opportunities. As a small and densely populated city lacking in natural resources, Singapore has been afflicted with persistent water shortages. Fortunately, Singapore's innovative development of water purification technologies have resolved the water shortages and established itself as a global water technology hub. Our country's ability to turn vulnerabilities into strengths inspires us to compete in FGC to show that with the right platform, small countries can compete effectively on the global stage. Our team comprises 7 members from the Robotics Club in AngloChinese School Independent, an institution providing secondary and tertiary education. We have Jaren as our team captain, setting the team goals and directing the team. Jonathan and Marcus are our programmers, who specialise in various fields of programming. Caven, Jarrett, Alvin and Jun Jie are our builders, who focus on the hardware and electronic aspects of the robot. Having participated in STEM-related national and international competitions, we believe that FIRST Global is an enriching experience that allows us to hone our technical experience and engineering know-how. That said, besides the nuts and bolts, we value the chance to be able to meet up with teams from around the world and interact with youths of different backgrounds, forging friendships that transcend geographical boundaries. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity to represent our nation and we look forward to seeing everyone at the 2019 FIRST Global Challenge.
