FIRST Global and Filament Games have joined forces to collaborate on RoboCo, an exciting new digital robotics game that broadens access to this vital and future-facing form of STEM project-based learning. Through open-ended sandbox play, brain-teasing challenges, and competitive virtual tournaments inspired by contemporary eSports championships, RoboCo aims to provide a stunning virtual adventure that complements and expands the world-class FIRST Global Robotics experience.
This first-of-its-kind digital robotics competition (the 2021 FIRST Global RoboCo Challenge) saw teams of students from around the world build and control robots to conquer tricky challenges in an Olympics-style event inspired by real-world robotics applications. This new digital robotics experience improves STEM attitudes and aptitudes for students, complements and augments physical robotics, and intertwines with emerging trends like scholastic eSports.

FIRST Global is US-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization committed to inspiring science and technology leadership, innovation, and collaboration in young people from all nations to empower them to address the world’s most pressing issues. We accomplish this with the annual FIRST Global Challenge, which engages students in a collaborative robotics competition that drives home the importance, excitement, and applicability of STEM education.

Founded in 2005, Filament Games is a full-service digital studio that specializes in learning game development on a for-hire basis. We’ve completed over 200 projects since our founding and have worked with some of the biggest names in education – folks like Amazon, Scholastic, Smithsonian, Oculus, National Geographic, PBS, Television Ontario (TVO), McGraw-Hill, and even the US Department of Education. Filament Games is the developer of RoboCo, a wholesome sandbox game about designing and building robots to serve the needs of squishy, hapless humans in the world of tomorrow!
