Cyle Sarmiento
HĆ„fa Adai, My name is Cyle Sarmiento, Iām 17 years old and a Senior at Simon Sanchez Highschool. This is my second year attending the FIRST Global Challenge, and I am the only returning member from the 2022 Geneva Team. I am the team Captain and lead engineer and am excited to share my experiences with the incoming team. I currently pursue my passions in the Culinary Arts by working at the Hyatt Regency Guam as a line cook.
I have always had a passion for all things STEM related since I was young. From an early age, I engulfed myself in the world of STEM, always opening up and trying to fix my broken toys.
My first exposure to STEM in school was when I joined the MATE underwater robotics team. There I learned skills in both mechanical and electrical engineering. I would say I have a brain that always needs to be worked on and challenged. From a young age, I also fell in love with the game of Chess, and I am now one of Guamās top chess players, placing number nine out 60 participants in Guam’s most recent International Chess Tournament.
I have been given the opportunities to join multiple areas of STEM, such as web coding classes using HTML, and continuously joining my schoolās robotics teams in both EV3 Lego robotics and MATE ROV robotics to further get more hands-on experience in STEM. I also have significant experience in CAD and 3d printing; having a 3d printer allowed me to have a STEM outlet at home during the quarantine period of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Iāll continue to be involved in the STEM field in Guam and hope to pursue a career in Food Science that combines my passion for the Culinary Arts and STEM fields.
Joseph Ordonez
HĆ„fa Adai! My name is Joseph Ordonez, and Iāll be a junior this coming school year. I attend Okkodo High School, where I foster my two biggest passions, JROTC and STEM. My history with STEM roots all the back to the start of my middle schoolās robotics team, where I was lured in with the appeal of becoming an engineer in the near future. My interest in JROTC is the culmination of my sportiness and leadership skills, helping me discover my dream college, the United States Naval Academy in Maryland.
Mitekshi Ghosh
Hi! My name is Mitekshi Ghosh, 15, and I am a Junior at George Washington High School. Robotics and STEM is something I was always passionate about and is a career choice. I have done robotics competitions in middle school and am ecstatic to continue in high school. Iāve grown to love engineering and technology and am excited to use my knowledge for this competition! The FIRST Global Challenge will teach me a lot and help me build skills for my future. I hope to be able to continue my passion for STEM and robotics and inspire others. BIBA GUAM!!
Myka Imbat
HƄfa Adai! I am Myka Imbat, a 15-year-old rising sophomore at Okkodo High School. My journey into the realm of STEM began its exciting trajectory when I was in the 5th grade. Starting with my active participation in Math Olympiad competitions during elementary school and advancing to MathCounts in middle school, I progressively broadened my view of Robotics. As I plunged into the intricate world of programming, problem-solving research, and even the hands-on creation of robots, I found excitement in collaborating with my peers and joining a local MATE ROV competition in the 7th grade.
My exposure and rapidly growing enthusiasm for STEM continued, and I now find myself taking part in the FIRSTGlobal Challenge. As I grow my skills for this upcoming competition, my aspiration is to enrich my understanding of technological solutions to global problems and establish connections with peers from around the world.
Jed Fernando
HĆ„fa Adai, I am Jed Fernando, a senior at Simon Sanchez High School. To be honest, unlike most or probably all of my teammates, I wasnāt introduced to coding or robotics until high school. Although experiencing this remarkable field late, I have been expending my time and energy researching, planning, and taking action for my future. This field in STEM would help benefit our society in many distinctive ways, whether for self-development or acts of service. Knowing the benefits technology has brought us, I firmly believe that the field of STEM is something that I should pursue and should not be overlooked.
Kody Siguenza
My name is Kody Siguenza, and I am a rising junior currently attending Okkodo High School. Iāve always had a formidable interest in STEM and robotics, which ended up with me spending the majority of my middle school career attracted to Lego Robotics, and although I have some regrets about not trying to look into other attributes, I wouldnāt have had it any other way. Fast Forward a few years, and Iām finally much more developed by running the fastest time for Okkodo in 2023ās All Island XC Race. As well as making it up in the ranks and receiving 2 billets (Operations Officer and Raider Team Commander) for our MCJROTC Program. However, now that Iāve been allowed to operate on robots since I was 4ā10, Iāll finally put all my efforts into FGC.
Another reason Iām putting in the effort for FGC is the potential it has for improving Guam as a whole. Recently we were hit with a very devastating natural disaster Typhoon Mawar, leading to utilities such as water and power being out for weeks and in worse cases, months. Learning more about renewable fuels and eventually the installation of them would be great for Guam, especially if another disaster were to strike.
Alicia Bacani
My name is Alicia Bacani, and I am an upcoming junior attending Okkodo High School. I am president of my schoolās robotics team and an officer for multiple clubs in my school. I love my cat, and I love my friend. I also love educating myself about the psychological factors of Stephen Kingās fictional characters, such as Brady Hartsfield.
