Vanya Olabisie Flangoh is a 16-year-old student attending the International School Limited-Secondary. Her deep involvement in STEM robotics has honed her critical thinking skills, empowering her to implement change in pressing issues within her school and community. With a long-standing passion for STEM robotics, she has actively participated in numerous robotics events at her school. Motivated by her drive to make a difference, Vanya is eager to leverage her knowledge and contribute to Sierra Leone’s participation in Singapore 2023.
Hadiatu Barrie, a 14-year-old student at Zadet Secondary School in Freetown, is deeply immersed in the world of STEM robotics. Through her active engagement in various robotics events at her school, she has developed strong critical thinking skills and the ability to address important challenges within her school and community. With an enduring passion for STEM robotics, Hadiatu is highly motivated to utilize her knowledge and expertise to contribute to Sierra Leone’s involvement in the Singapore 2023 event. Her enthusiasm and determination drive her to make a meaningful impact and create positive change.
Valdie Samuel Rodney Valcarcel, a 13-year-old student at International School Limited Secondary, possesses a profound enthusiasm for STEM robotics. Valdie’s relentless curiosity revolves around the transformative potential of STEM in today’s world. He actively immerses himself in robotics events organized at his school and ardently seeks opportunities to apply his knowledge towards Sierra Leone’s involvement in Singapore 2023.
Christian Kamara, a 16-year-old student from Rosetta Senior Secondary in Freetown, has been deeply involved in the world of STEM robotics for a significant period. His unwavering passion for robotics has driven him to actively participate in various robotics competitions held at his school. Now, Christian is eager to showcase his creativity and abilities at the upcoming event in Singapore. With his extensive experience and dedication to the field, he aims to make a lasting impression and contribute to the success of the event.
Daniel Raynold Falama is an exceptional individual who currently serves as the team captain for the Sierra Leone robotics team. With an unwavering passion for technology and innovation, Daniel stands out as a remarkable talent. His fascination with the problem-solving potential of technology has driven him towards a career in software engineering. What sets Daniel apart is his unwavering dedication to his craft. He approaches each project with curiosity and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Despite his impressive accomplishments, Daniel continuously seeks opportunities for personal and professional growth. He refuses to settle for mediocrity and actively embraces new challenges and learning experiences. Daniel’s commitment extends to the exploration of STEM robotics, where he consistently strives to expand his knowledge and skills. His eager anticipation to showcase his creativity and abilities at the upcoming Singapore 2023 competition reflects his relentless pursuit of continuous growth and achievement.
The team is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities to the world. They are excited to witness the participation of their fellow young innovators in this year’s Solution Challenge for the FGC, and are enthusiastic about the potential outcomes.
Mentors
Susan Kargbo, currently serving as the team mentor for the Sierra Leone robotics team, is a dedicated staff member at the National Commission for Children (NCC). She is a passionate advocate for technology and the arts. With her extensive experience as a dynamic STEM educator, Susan has consistently achieved exceptional academic outcomes and is renowned for her unwavering dedication to her students’ achievements. She has previously imparted her knowledge to numerous FIRST Global students, teaching them the importance of critical thinking in addressing pressing problems. Susan eagerly anticipates the opportunity to guide and mentor her team for the upcoming 2023 competition in Singapore. Her ultimate goal is to inspire and empower the team members, helping them realize their full potential.
Emmanuel Kamanda is the current President of the Engineering Society, at Fouray Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. As a self-learner, he is also an avid programmer specializing in systems design, web and application design and deployment, data analysis, and one adept at computational thinking and computer-aided design. He has participated in and won prizes in several awards for himself, the Faculty, the university, and the country, notably; The PicoCTF Cybersecurity competition facilitated by Carnegie Mellon University Africa (Where he represented FBC and the Country) in 2022, The Generation Unlimited Challenge facilitated by the Government of Sierra Leone’s Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation in 2022 (Where he Design a server that can give kids access to STEM learning Materials offline), and The Tourism Innovation Challenge organized by Sensi-tech hub in 2021. Won the best coach in the first ever vex robotics competition organize in Sierra Leone and he coached St. Joseph Secondary School. As a strong researcher and practicing STEM enthusiast, Emmanuel serves as the Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of STEAD Society, a nationally recognized STEM Organization that solves educational challenges for youths. He has represented STEAD Society and by extension, Sierra Leone at the 4th Africa Space Generation Workshop in Ghana 2021 and also participated in an online Space Hackathon competition. Looking ahead, Emmanuel is eager to mentor his team for the upcoming competition in Singapore in 2023.
