Team Barbados 2024 🇧🇧


Team Barbados is mentored by Mr. Matthew Douglas, an Electronics and Electrical Technology Teacher at the Combermere School with over twenty-five years’ experience teaching at the secondary level. He continuously shares his knowledge and experience in robotics in various forums in order to lay a foundation for further development. The Assistant Mentor is Mr. Tyrese Boyce who represented Barbados as a student from 2018 and continues to share his expertise, inspire and guide the youth in this field. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with Electronics, and currently works as a Programmer Analyst.

Alexa: My name is Alexa Clarke, I am a 14 year old student of Queen’s College and I love coding. Ever since I was young, I have always had a passion for STEM but I am mainly interested in the programming, problem solving and science aspects of it. I am the leader of FIRST Global Team Barbados, and I am a returning student. I love robotics because it gives me the opportunity to be creative using my hands and my mind in ways that can be beneficial to others.

Isaiah: My name is Isaiah Archer and I am a 14 year old student of Queen’s College. I am a dedicated STEAM student who will thrive on the challenges of the competition in Greece. I am excited about creating and coding advanced robotic solutions to solve practical and real-world issues. Beyond my hopes for the tournament, I have a profound interest in cultural exchange and I embrace the richness of global diversity.

Hadiya: My name is Hadiya Da Silva, a 14 year old citizen of Barbados, born in St. Vincent and currently attending the prestigious Combermere School. I am eager to participate at the FIRST Global Challenge as I believe it will provide a unique chance to expand my knowledge and skills in a hands-on environment. The theme “Feeding the Future” signifies better health for the future youths.

Raché: As a robotics enthusiast, I Raché Pinder-Graham derive immense joy from spectating the FGC robotics competitions. The cutting-edge innovations and creative displays witnessed at FGC serve as a wellspring of inspiration, fuelling my passion for robotics and igniting a genuine drive toward a future career.

Cristiano: Greetings, my name is Cristiano Simpson. I am a 17 year old student at the Combermere School. I am presently studying coding, attending lessons externally, and refining my skills in computer science. Joining FIRST Global Team Barbados has provided me with the opportunity to learn, grow, meet new people, and improve my skills in coding and designing robots.

Alex: My name is Alex Henry, and I am deeply passionate about art, design, electronics and robotics. Participating in the FIRST Global Challenge is an incredible experience, bringing together like-minded individuals, fostering a sense of community and showcasing the incredible potential within this field. It has not only demonstrated my prowess in robotics and engineering, but also serves as an ongoing inspiration for me to excel in this domain.

Dominic: My name is Dominic Greene and I am a student of the Combermere School in Barbados. We are thrilled to participate in this year’s FIRST Global Challenge, with the theme “Feeding the Future.” This challenge is important to us because our community cares about sustainability. We want to learn more and create new ideas for safe and appropriate food systems.

Terique: Hello my name is Terique Yearwood and this will be my first year participating in the FIRST Global Challenge. I was first introduced to robotics at the Combermere School by Mr. Matthew Douglas and I also participated in one of his many robotics camps. The journey so far has been eye-opening, exploring the many branches of STEM and robotics technology, and building my first robot. I truly look forward to Greece 2024. My dream is to become a robotics engineer and an animation and game designer.

Aidyn: Hello I am Aidyn Morris, a proud and enthusiastic member of FIRST Global Team Barbados. I am just 14 years old and I attend the Combermere School. I have always had a love for building and seeing how things operate, hence unlocking my fascination with robotics. The FIRST Global Challenge promises invaluable experiences. I eagerly anticipate learning from other teams, gaining exposure and immersing myself in diverse and rich cultures. Representing both my school and our beloved island at this prestigious event holds immense significance for me.
