We are TEAM Brunei Darussalam, a group of five passionate students from Maktab Sains School and Sekolah Arab Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Rimba, and we’ve been given the incredible opportunity to represent Brunei Darussalam at the 2024 FIRST Global Challenge in Athens. Every Sunday, we come together with excitement and determination, guided by our amazing lecturers and mentored by UTB’s mechatronic engineering students, to design and build a robot that can help solve some of the world’s most pressing issues. This year’s challenge focuses on the vital connection between water, food, and energy systems, and we’re proud to contribute to finding solutions that can ensure a sustainable future for everyone.

As students, we see the challenges that climate change brings to our country, especially when it comes to food security. Brunei has made great progress toward self-sufficiency, but with global warming, water shortages, and energy demands, there’s still so much to be done. That’s why being part of this competition means so much to us. It’s not just about building a robot; it’s about taking part in something bigger than ourselves—working together with young people from all over the world to make a difference.

We’re thrilled to be representing Brunei on this global stage, and we believe that by participating in the FIRST Global Challenge, we’ll gain valuable experience in new technologies, make friends from different countries, and become better prepared for our futures. But more than that, we hope that by working together, we can build a more peaceful world where nations unite to solve problems and create a better tomorrow for everyone.
