For this year’s FIRST Global Challenge, themed “Feeding the Future,” Team DRC is represented by youth from local schools in eastern DRC. These young innovators are determined to showcase their resilience and ingenuity.

The DRC, with its hot, humid climate and high rainfall, has almost 80 million hectares of arable land and 4 million hectares of irrigable land, though only 1% is cultivated. With vegetation capable of supporting 40 million livestock and fish stocks estimated at 700,000 tonnes a year, the DRC has the potential to feed around 2 billion people worldwide. This theme is timely, highlighting the importance of learning from past challenges and developing sustainable solutions for the future.
