21 May Team Sri Lanka 2024 🇱🇰
Team Sri Lanka consists of a set of conscientious and unique individuals who share a unified love for robotics and STEM. All the members of our 2024 team are first-time FGC participants, but we are all brimming with unbridled enthusiasm, accentuated by the success of many current team members at the FIRST Tech Challenge 2024. Ready to capitalise on the rich talent pool and intellectual prowess at our disposal, Sri Lanka is determined to shine on the global stage this year!
Hiveen (17) – Meet Hiveen, our resident robotics veteran. Hiveen’s knack for computer-aided design and general mechanical know-how is unmatched by anyone else on the team. He thoroughly enjoys the physical aspects of robotics in creating new appliances and components with his 3D printer when participating in various island-wide local competitions. Moreover, he spends much of his free time playing tennis and making video games as a means of relaxing and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Raveen (17) – Despite starting robotics only last year, Raveen started his experience with a splash, taking part in the FIRST Tech Challenge earlier this year. His enthusiasm for physics, computer science, and general passion for STEM allowed him to quickly grow as an individual and embrace the change from science olympiads, to entering the world of robotics by learning Computer Aided Design and various other essential skills for an aspiring engineer. Outside of robotics, Raveen is also a competitive and nationally ranked tennis player, part of his school debate team, Press Club president, and a frequent participant in the world of MUN conferences.
Maleeka (17) – A dedicated and hard worker, Maleeka’s skills are not limited to robotics. Maleeka is also a star on the football pitch, as an excellent centre-back who is sure to carry on his skills to a college level. His sense of humour is also unmatched as he prevents any monotony from building up in the work environment. Additionally, Maleeka is the Captain of his school’s Robotics club and displays significant interest in the design aspect of robotics and STEM. Naturally, Maleeka is confident in his abilities and is driven to perform at the FIRST Global competition this year in 2024.
Supul (16) – An integral part of the team, Supul’s contributions cannot be understated in their expertise and gravitas. An excellent coder and driver, Supul has played a key role in our testing procedures and his unwavering dedication to the team cannot be questioned. He is an avid computer science expert and manages to consistently enthral his teammates and classmates alike with his charismatic and comedic interjections. Expanding on his love for technology Supul started his own web server at the age of 14, proving that he is indeed handy with a computer. To wind down, he enjoys playing video games online with his friends, as is also a well-known traveller.
Tharul (16) – Meet Tharul, our team’s coding prodigy. Despite battling social anxiety, Tharul’s quick wit and infectious humour keep the team’s spirits high. An ace coder and a dedicated problem solver, he relishes every challenge that comes his way. When not engrossed in coding, Tharul can be found mastering the art of Tetris or dreaming about the mysteries of outer space. His adventurous spirit and love for fun make him an irreplaceable asset to the team. Tharul also enjoys playing basketball, finding the sport a perfect way to stay active and balanced.
