The SMART Sistas Program was introduced to Robotics through Sue Omalley a STEM educator from South Australia after her request for the SMART Sistas participation through her sister-in-law Mary Omalley who has connections with Vanuatu. This was the beginning of the of FIRST Global journey for SMART Sistas. SMART Sistas has being fielding a team since the inauguration competition in Washington DC in 2017, Mexico City in 2018 and Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 2019. Despite the pandemic the team continues to join the virtual competition in 2020 and 2021. Team Vanuatu participated in the 2022 challenge in Geneva, Switzerland for the first time with a mixed team of three girls and two boys accompanied by two mentors, female and a male. Again a team of three girls and two boys attended the 2023 challenge in Singapore. This year another team of six students, three girls and three boys will be sent with two mentors to Greece for this year’s challenge.
